Abishek Porel

Born and brought up in West Bengal, Abishek has cricket in his blood. His cousin Ishan Porel, is already a known name in Indian cricket. From a young age he trained as a wicket keeper batsman and made quick progress through junior cricket. Off the field Abishek prefers to stay away from the spot light and focuses mainly on his game.

Professional Career and IPL Journey

Abishek made a name for himself playing domestic cricket for Bengal. By the end of 2022-2023 seasons he had already racked up 66 dismissals in just 16 first class matches including 58 catches and 8 stumpings. His T20 journey also started around the same time. Even though his early stats weren’t very impressive, it was clear that he had lots of potential. In 2023 when DC needed a replacement for the injured Rishabh Pant, they brought in Abishek Porel.

He made his IPL debut against Gujurat Titans and looked promising scoring 20 runs in11 balls. Though he only played 4 matches that season, he left enough of an impression. In IPL 2024 things changed quickly for Porel. He started as a backup, but in Dc’s first match he got a chance when the team was struggling at 138 for 7. He surprised everyone by scoring quick 32 runs in just 10 balls. From that point there was no looking back. He featured in all 14 league games and ended up as Delhi Capitals 3rd largest run scorer with 327 runs at a  strike rate of 159.51 including two half centuries. Recognising his value the franchise owner retained him for 4 crore for this 2025 IPL season.

He is a young, hungry, and already a proven performer under pressure. Till now this season he has scored 225 runs in 8 matches.
