In 2015, Lungi Ngidi commenced his professional cricket career playing for Northerns and then Titans in the domestic circuit of South Africa. His pace and control were meritorious to make his claim stronger to the national side. He made his debut in T20 Internationals in January 2017, in Tests in January 2018, and in ODIs in February 2018. Since then, Ngidi bagged more than 50 wickets in Tests, over 100 in ODIs, and more than 60 in T20Is, thereby establishing himself amongst South Africa’s current best fast bowlers.
The Chennai Super Kings are the franchise that bought him first in 2018 for the Indian Premier League. He remained with CSK till the end of the 2021 season, where his pace bowling was instrumental in many key wins for the team. After a gap in the IPL, Lungi returned in 2025, signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore for this very season.
