Purple and Orange Cap Winner in IPL 2023

From the points of view of purple and orange caps, well, IPL 2023 was kinda impressive for one team, and that was the Gujarat Titans team. Why? Well, both, orange cap and the purple cap were won by the players of this team. If you didn’t follow this specific season of IPL, then this will be just like a recap for you because we’re here to talk about the Purple and Orange Cap winners in IPL 2023. Here we go then.

Purple Cap Winner in IPL 2023: Mohammed Shami (GT)

Mohammed Shami

If you haven’t been following IPL lately, then you may not know that it was actually Mohammed Shami who took the purple cap home in the 2023 season of IPL. He actually succeeded in taking about 28 wickets in just 17 matches. But that wasn’t for SRH, though, nah, in IPL 2023, he actually was part of the Gujarat Titans team. For those who have been watching Shami for many years now, they know why he’s so successful as a fast bowler, not just in IPL, but for India’s international cricket teams as well. Like, back in the 2015 World Cup, he was the main fast bowler for India.

Despite performing so well in the international matches and playing IPL since 2013, it was the first time that Mohammed Shami won the purple cap. Sure, he could have better chance at doing this again in IPL 2024, but because he got injured, he was ruled out of the tournament. Still, in IPL 2025 auctions, SRH (Sunrisers Hyderabad) went for Shami for a whopping 10 crore rupees. Though, so far, his performance is pretty decent or kinda underwhelming in IPL 2025.

Orange Cap Winner in IPL 2023: Shubman Gill (GT)

Shubman Gill

Yes, even the orange cap in IPL 2023 was won by a Gujarat Titans player, and yes, that was none other than Shubman Gill, the opener batsman of this IPL team. In this season, he scored a whopping 890 runs, with the help of 3 centuries and 4 fifty-plus runs he scored. His batting average was somewhere around the 59.33 mark, and if you remember following IPL 2023, you’d know that Shubman Gill in that very season was way too close to beating Virat Kohli’s highest ever IPL score, but he just missed it. In IPL 2025, though, once again, Shubman Gill and his team are doing super well, they’re at the top of the points table right now, though, Shubman Gill’s name isn’t on the orange cap list after 7 matches this season.
