Just like every other IPL season, IPL 2022 was super interesting as well. We literally saw many records broken and made new records set by players, and that’s what makes this tournament so awesome. It is not just the team points table people keep an eye on; it is also about the individual performances that players are giving in IPL, and that’s why people always follow the purple and orange cap leaderboards. So, today, we’ll specifically talk about the Purple and Orange Cap winners in IPL 2022. Here we go.
Purple Cap Winner in IPL 2022: Yuzvendra Chahal
Sure, back in IPL 2022, Yuzvendra Chahal was the highest wicket-taker in the entire tournament, but he wasn’t playing from the side of his old team, RCB. Nah, in IPL 2022 auctions, he actually was bought by the Rajasthan Royals, and that year, he earned his first-ever purple cap by taking 27 wickets. And these weren’t just normal wickets; these were huge wickets, most of which came in the very serious do-or-die matches. And you’d certainly remember his best performance from IPL 2022 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), when he took 5 wickets against them in a very serious match. At first, it just doesn’t make sense that Yuzvendra Chahal has been able to secure the purple cap just one time, and that’s just because of the fact that in the IPL history, he is the highest wicket-taker bowler, like 213 wickets to his name as of 2025.
Right now, in the 18th season of IPL, he’s playing for the side of Punjab Kings, and we recently got to see another good performance against KKR, where he took 4 wickets and helped in defending the lowest ever total in the history of IPL.
Orange Cap Winner in IPL 2022: Jos Buttler
When the IPL 2022 started, no one would have thought that Jos Buttler would make it to the top of the orange cap list. Why? Well, starting off, his journey in this season of the IPL was kinda slow and somewhat decent, but then he started shifting gears, and quite literally won his team (Rajasthan Royals) some super important matches. In IPL 2022, he scored a whopping 863 runs with an amazing average of 57.53. Another interesting fact is that he became the only foreign player in the history of IPL to score 4 centuries in just one season. And another interesting thing about that is the fact that only Virat Kohli has done that back in 2016, when he also scored 4 centuries in the IPL.
As of IPL 2025, though, Jos Buttler is no longer playing for the Rajasthan Royals; well, now he’s part of the Gujarat Titans team, and so far, he’s doing kinda great.
